jQuery custom content scroller: Can't swipe on ipad when touching scrollable area

I have run into an issue using the jQuery custom content scroller plugin.

I need to be able to scroll horizontally when my focus is above a scrollable text area. With the standard scrollbar there is no problem, but after I have integrated the custom scrolling plugin, I can no longer do this. How can I fix this?

In plugin version 3.0.5 this is fixed in the sense that when your touch-swipe vertically over an element with horizontal scrollbar it won't prevent page scrolling (and vice versa). It'll also not prevent 2-finger zooming.

The custom scrollbar plugin you are using handles the scroll event. It prevents the event from bubbling by calling preventDefault() in the event handler.

This means the parent div (that scrolls horizontally) never has a chance to respond to your horizontal scroll.

This seems to be the intended behaviour of the library (compare with demo implementation of nested scrollable areas)

You'll either need to modify the plugin to allow event bubbling, pick another plugin, or abandon the custom scrollbar idea and allow the browser's default scrollbars to do their job.
