    [self.tabBarController setSelectedIndex:0];

Here index 0 is refering to first tab of your tabbarcontroller.

Try ,

[tabBar setSelectedItem:[[tabBar items] objectAtIndex:index]];

or

[tabBarController setSelectedIndex:index];
