Neither BindingResult nor plain target object for bean name 'user' available as request attribute

I am working with spring and i'm stuck with a single example.If i resolve one error it gives me different error...

I have a controller program named UserController2.java as follows

now i am getting the following error as 

org.apache.jasper.JasperException: java.lang.IllegalStateException: Neither  
BindingResult nor plain target object for bean name 'user' available as request 
attribute

I have only used "user" in both jsp and the controller class.Some told me to change the following line of code from

modelMap.addAttribute("user", new User());

to this

modelMap.addAttribute("user", new user());

but i am getting error as 

  user cannot be resolved to a type

i have searched the net thoroughly,looked at various examples but i couldnt resolve the code.Any suggestions??

I faced the same issue in my project.I fixed the issue by modifying the controller class.Here is the code : LoginForm.jsp page

In the LoginForm.jsp page observe the commandName="userFormNew" and in the controller i have two methods one is to populate loginForm.jsp page automatically,when ever we try to run the application using @RequestingMapping(value="/",method=RequestMethod.GET) and returning the model object by redirecting the LoginForm.jsp page.

Here is the Controller class :

}

My Model class:

I had the same problem. make sure that when in controller you return page userForm.jsp you put in Model object that represents your user. For example, in my case:

@RequestMapping(value = "registration", method = RequestMethod.GET)
public String registration(Model model) {
    model.addAttribute("UserForm", new UserForm()); // !!!!
    return PATH_REGISTRATION;
}

 @RequestMapping(value = "/register", method = RequestMethod.POST)

        @Valid @ModelAttribute("UserForm") UserForm userForm,
        BindingResult result, HttpServletRequest request, Model model,
        Principal principal) {
    if (!result.hasErrors()) {
        model.addAttribute("message", "Registration success");
    }
    try {
        userService.create(createUser(userForm));
    } catch (SQLException e) {
        model.addAttribute("message", "Can't create user");
        log.error("Can't create user " + userForm.getLogin(), e);
    }
    return PATH_REGISTRATION;
}

and in JSP:

...
<form:form method="POST" action="registrate" commandName="UserForm">
....

If I'm not wrong I think you're mixing some concepts from Spring newer versions and older ones. In your controller:

  • Use @Controller and remove extends MultiActionController (spring 3 way)

OR

  • Extend from MultiActionController and remove @Controller (spring 2 way). You should also declare this bean in Spring XML config files.

Maybe this helps, or maybe I'm wrong, but seems weird for me to declare a controller with both stuff.

Additionally, you have to remove your UserController2 from your web.xml. You have to declare it in Spring XML configuration files if you're using Spring 2 approach.
