How to set min-height of div to height of viewport?

Question

How can you set the min-height of a div to be the height of a viewport?

I've tried the following css but when the content inside the div exceeds this height it overflows outside of the div i.e. the div doesn't seem to expand based on the content inside the div.

 .panel-default { height: 100vh }

     <div class="panel-body" >

Use min-height: 100vh since height: 100vh is a fixed value and will not expand past the view port size.
