Converting Scala JsValue to JavaScript object inside Twirl template

My problem is surprisingly simple. I have a play.api.libs.json.JsValue Scala object obtained through Linkedin's REST API.

It looks like this:

That linkedinProfile: play.api.libs.json.JsValue object is available in my Twirl template.

But I can't manage to pass it as a JavaScript object to the JavaScript controller. I'm trying to do it like this:

The issue, is that this code is compiled by Play Framework into that:

So basically, the data is passed as a string (notice the " at the start and end), and on top of that the double-quotes wrapping JSON keys and values are escaped with \.

Instead, I would like this:

And the reason why it didn't do so, is that my JsValue was a JsString, whereas it should have been a JsObject.

Why was it a JsString you ask? Because it was born as Json.toJson(jsonString) (bad!), instead of Json.parse(jsonString) (good!).

Calling the controller directly in the template breaks the MVC pattern.

In your controller you would ordinarily do something like 

class FooController() extends Controller {

  def index() = Action { 
    //fetch from linkedin or where ever    
    val result: JsValue = Json.obj("foo" -> "bar")
    Ok(views.html.index(result))
  }

}

View: 

@import play.api.libs.json.JsValue
@(result: JsValue)
