Constructor threw exception; nested exception is java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: org.springframework.util.AntPathMatcher.setCaseSensitive(Z)V

I've Spring MVC OAuth2 working example. Business client wants their web application should be using the latest jars (maven dependencies) of Spring security. Currently I was using <spring.security.version>3.2.8.RELEASE</spring.security.version>, when I changed it to the <spring.security.version>4.1.1.RELEASE</spring.security.version>. I started facing the below error:

org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name 'org.springframework.security.filterChains': Cannot resolve reference to bean 'org.springframework.security.web.DefaultSecurityFilterChain#0' while setting bean property 'sourceList' with key [0]; nested exception is org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name 'org.springframework.security.web.DefaultSecurityFilterChain#0': Cannot create inner bean '(inner bean)#75702197' of type [org.springframework.security.web.util.matcher.AntPathRequestMatcher] while setting constructor argument; nested exception is org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name '(inner bean)#75702197': Instantiation of bean failed; nested exception is org.springframework.beans.BeanInstantiationException: Could not instantiate bean class [org.springframework.security.web.util.matcher.AntPathRequestMatcher]: Constructor threw exception; nested exception is java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: org.springframework.util.AntPathMatcher.setCaseSensitive(Z)V

I am not sure what has updated/changed in the latest spring-security version.

Using sample program I was able to reproduced the issue. The code I'm using for reference: mvc-dispatcher-servlet.xml

Related to I use spring version 4.2.7.RELEASE. I see below error: exception:

You should use hasRole for Spring security version above 4.0

Add use-expressions=true

<http auto-config="true" use-expressions="true">

and then

<intercept-url pattern="/api/**" access="hasRole('ROLE_APP')" />

And for your first exception java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: org.springframework.util.AntPathMatcher.setCaseSensitive(Z)V you can find the answer here

Please change the spring version to 4.2.0.Release. That should solve your problem. Remaining configuration should remain the same.

If you look at Spring 4.1.x code, you will find that this version of the class doesn't contain the method setCaseSensitive(Z) method, but Spring 4.2.x does.
