My computer have 24 processors in cat /proc/cpuinfo
. when I run a benchmark and get cpu usage by a jvisualvm sampler, I got such a result:
There are 24 ProducerSendThread with the same total time and total cpu time,I think it means the 24 ProducerSendThread are all running in full speed and consumed all CPU resources this computer have, But threads like Thread-181 or Thread-185 can still have their CPU time.

Visualvm is not the best choise to measure CPU time. The reason is simple. When you start sampling in the profiler it just creates thread dumps every 10 ms(10 is for example, i don't know the actual value). It then aggregates all you thread dumps to show you overall picture. Just run you test again, then call kill -3 PID in your console(or press Ctrl+Break in Intellij idea) and you will see the thread dump. I bet you will see all those 24 threas are in RUNNABLE state. But thread dump doesn't show you what threads are running on CPU and what threads are waiting for their timeslice. So visualvm thinks that all those thrads are consumes CPU, but that's not true. To sum up, sampling is the easiest way to get understaing of what you system does, but it also can distort the real data.
I may also want to read about safepoints if you use sampling often. They can also change thread dump picture.

See, a process may have multiple threads. jvisualvm is visualizing the cpu utilization of threads. Check how many cores are there in your computer also while discussing the cpu.
