Using D3 slider to change attribute

I'm trying to change the color attribute of a circle through a slider. First, I call a function drawCircle(red) where red is the r value in rgb.

function drawCircle(red) {
            var circ = svg.selectAll(".circle")
                        .enter().append("circle")
                        .attr("cx", 100)
                        .attr("cy", 100)
                        .attr("r", 20)
                        .style("fill",  d3.rgb(red, 0, 0));
        }

        // Initial values on page load
        drawCircle(100);

This works fine but now I want to change the red component through a slider, from 0 to 255. So I made a slider from this example.

    this.parentNode.appendChild(this.cloneNode(true)); })
    .attr("class", "track-overlay")
    .call(d3.drag()
        .on("start.interrupt", function() { slider.interrupt(); })
        .on("start drag", function() { changeRed(sliderScale.invert(d3.event.x)); }));

    var handle = slider.insert("circle", ".track-overlay")
    .attr("class", "handle")
    .attr("r", 9);

    function changeRed(h) {
        handle.attr("cx", sliderScale(h));
        drawCircle(h);
    }

I am able to move the slider but there's no change in color.
