ValueError at could not convert string to float: [0.0, 0.0, 0.0, 0.0,

I am trying to do numpy.dot of two numpy array matrix. But got the error TypeError: Cannot cast array data from dtype('float64') to dtype('U32') according to the rule 'safe'. So i tried converting u_vec numpy array to float dtype. Now i am receiving new error as 

  ValueError at /movies-recs/  could not convert string to float: [0.0, 0.0, 0.0, 0.0,

    alist = json.loads(u_vec)
    uvec=np.array(alist)

Looks like u_vec is a list of string "0.0". You need to typecast each of the elements in the list to float. One way to do it is the following:

 u_vec = [float(x) for x in u_vec]
