Strange connection errors upon running jhipster project

I am trying to run a just generated jhipster project on ubuntu 18.04. For some strange reason, I am getting a bunch connection errors for the server and it shutdown. This makes me believe that there's some configuration issues with ubuntu's firewall. The problem is that I didn't change anything. It's a new install in a virtualbox.

Here are the errors:

As per the docs, we need to start Kafka.

A Docker Compose configuration file is generated and you can start Kafka with the command:

docker-compose -f src/main/docker/kafka.yml up -d
