Splash screen attempt just shows a black screen

I've tried to implement a splash screen to my app but it just shows me a black screen for the amount of time that i told him to..

Manifest:

<activity android:name=".SplashScreen"
    android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Black.NoTitleBar.Fullscreen">
    <intent-filter>
        <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN"/>
        <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER"/>

        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);

        new Handler().postDelayed(new Runnable(){

            public void run(){
                Intent i = new Intent(SplashScreen.this,RSR_Revalidatieservice.class);
                startActivity(i);

I'm only trying to show a splash screen for about 3 seconds so no need to "load" app or so in background, i just wanted a cool launcher effect.

Replace: android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Black.NoTitleBar.Fullscreen" from your manifest with:

android:theme="@style/AppTheme.NoActionBar"
