java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: Lorg/junit/platform/commons/function/Try;

I want to use the latest JUnit version:

        <dependency>
            <groupId>org.junit.jupiter</groupId>

            <scope>test</scope>

            <groupId>org.junit.jupiter</groupId>

        </dependency>
        <dependency>
            <groupId>org.mockito</groupId>
            <artifactId>mockito-core</artifactId>
            <version>2.25.0</version>
            <scope>test</scope>
        </dependency>
        <dependency>
            <groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
            <artifactId>spring-boot-starter-test</artifactId>
            <version>2.1.3.RELEASE</version>
            <scope>test</scope>
        </dependency>
        <dependency>
            <groupId>org.junit.jupiter</groupId>
            <artifactId>junit-jupiter-params</artifactId>
            <version>5.4.0</version>
            <scope>test</scope>
        </dependency>

But when I compile the code I get this exception:

Do you know how I can fix this? I use Java 11.

This error is caused by the Spring's dependency management starter poms and your pom.xml configuration. Spring-boot-starter-test is fetching JUnit4, which you need to exclude.

You should be able to fix it if you use this pom.xml config:

        <dependency>
            <groupId>org.mockito</groupId>
            <artifactId>mockito-core</artifactId>
            <version>2.25.0</version>
            <scope>test</scope>
        </dependency>
        <dependency>
            <groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
            <artifactId>spring-boot-starter-test</artifactId>
            <scope>test</scope>
            <exclusions>
              <exclusion>
                  <groupId>junit</groupId>
                  <artifactId>junit</artifactId>
              </exclusion>
            </exclusions>
        </dependency>
        <dependency>
            <groupId>org.junit.jupiter</groupId>
            <artifactId>junit-jupiter</artifactId>
            <version>5.4.0</version>
            <scope>test</scope>
        </dependency>
