Invalid Freshly Pasted Geometry in a PostGis Polygon Layer

After deleting all shapes and pasting fixed ones into a PostGIS layer, i edited a couple shapes and some got invalid (rings without enough points, etc). This made saving the pasted shapes impossible. This meant that my PostGIS layer was empty "on disk" and the shapes were present only in memory. When i tried to run check layer validity, fix geometry, or any other tools, they fail because all the fid values are nextval()

What to do?

I was able to delete the fid column, run the tools and do some manual fixes, and then add the fid column back to the temp layer, and copy paste back into the source layer. (all while avoiding getting a heart attack about the risk of loosing 430 valuable shapes that i spent hours refining)
