Difference between Standard Deviation and Variance

Question

What is the use of variance and standard deviation? where can we use these concepts?

I do know that variance shows us how spread out our data is from the mean, then why so we need another measure called standard deviation that is just the square root of variance.

Please give me some source for this if you have any answer.
