Is it possible to get analytics data from published VS Code extension?

We would like to get analytics from our published extension, like session length, engagement etc. How can we do that? I see that we can get analytics about acquisition over time here but we would like to get data back from users about the extension's usage.

In game development we write in events that get triggered during game play, but I'm not sure if it's possible to write events into the extension's code. Thanks
