Could someone please explain this plugin installation instructions?

Installation instructions:

Update character items Replace the character info file, add new icons to folder and/or the character svg file in character folder... Click button, and magic.

Did he mean updpate and not replace?

Clicking here should update the menu to include all items see images below

The menu is supposed to look like this: After clicking the above button it should look like this

I am confused about "Replace the character.php info file and adding new icons. I've tried and nothing is working and am wondering if i'm misunderstanding the directions.

Thanks to anyone who can make these steps much clearer for me.

I've created an .svg file for all the other .png character icons and placed them in the Character folder.

I tried updating the character.php file and changed .png to .svg.

I tried placing the created .svg files into the character_icons folder. After each of these attempts.

I clicked the update character info svg button.

I expected a full items menu but it did not work.
