Stream Burning in DEM

What to do if stream network generated from DEM varies drastically from what we see on basemap? how do we correct this issue?

I tried generating stream network from SRTM DEM 30m and the streams were misalligned or in some places doesn't at all match with basemap visible streams or watercourses. I would like to know what to do in case of this problem.
